You Have Unique Money Tendencies… What Are They?

There are 8 tendencies that you are uniquely wired to have. My husband and I have a fun time talking through each of these and seeing where we are the same or the opposite. It’s common for your spouse to be the opposite of you on these. This is something that I work on with my clients, and it’s so fun!

Understanding why you handle money the way you do helps you build upon your strengths and become aware of your “bad” habits. Until you become aware of how your beliefs about money affect the results that you create, you will stay in the same place. You may feel stuck.

Once you understand these tendencies you will make progress on your financial goals faster. Discovering your personal money mindset will be a game changer! Let’s get started uncovering your unique money tendencies.

Grab a piece of paper and rate yourself on all 8 tendencies. When it comes to money and how you spend it and relate to it, where do you fall in each category? There is no right or wrong answer. Think of it as a continuum with each on opposite sides.

  1. Saver or Spender
  2. Nerd or Free Spirit
  3. Experiences or Things
  4. Quality or Quantity
  5. Safety or Status
  6. Abundance or Scarcity
  7. Planned Giving or Spontaneous Giving
  8. Dreamer or Realist
I go into the details of these tendencies with my clients, but here are a few questions to consider.

  • Is there a tendency that is causing you problems in your financial life? Where can you moderate on the scale?
  • Do your or your spouse’s tendencies cause problems in your relationship?
  • How could you approach the differences from what you have learned?
Take some time to think about your money tendencies and how they affect your financial goals or relationships. Discovering yourself and why you handle money the way you do makes all the difference.
